After coming across the series of books recently in some boxes, I’ve started re-reading the Belgariad by David Eddings. My last Friday 56 featured the first book, Pawn of Prophecy. Predictably, this post is all about book two, Queen of Sorcery.
Vo Wacune was no more. Twenty-four centuries had passed since the Wacite Arends had been laid waste, and the dark, endless forests of northern Arendia had reclaimed the ruins. Broken walls had toppled and been swallowed up in the moss and wet brown bracken of the forest floor, and only the shattered stumps of the once proud towers mouldered among the trees and fog to mark the place where Vo Wacune had stood.
Silk’s look was direct, and Garion realised that the little man was quite serious.
‘I’ll be careful,’ he promised.
‘I knew I could count on you,’ Silk said gravely.
‘Are you making fun of me?’
‘Would I do that, Garion?’ Silk asked mockingly. Then he laughed and they rode on together through the gloomy afternoon.
