This week my 56 is from the book I am currently reading. Starstruck by Brenda Hiatt is an interesting blend of YA romance and sci-fi. It kinda works, but the first quarter of the book is extremely different to the rest of it. There are some niggles (like the over-use of the word “gorgeous”) but it is fairly enjoyable so far. I have to say, the main character gets a bit on my nerves every now and then, but that’s probably the “I’m a socially awkward nobody” attitude she has. Other than this, the characters are quite relatable.

In a couple of months the corn would all be stubble, the harvest complete, but for now, this spot was as secluded as the heart of a forest.

I boarded the bus on the first day of school with a weird sense of anticipation. Even after nine years as the class dork, I couldn’t quite squelch a fizzy little hope that this year would be different.
